Our Company
I’m Lisa, proud founder of Mission Matilda, a heartfelt endeavor dedicated to crafting unique apparel and accessories. Every piece you see here is hand-drawn and designed with love and intention by yours truly from my tiny workspace in New York. I’m grateful that you found us and hope our creations bring you as much joy as we have making them!
My Inspiration
I draw motivation from my journey as a parent, particularly the happiness and wonder that my daughter brings into my life. After stepping away from the luxury brand world to focus on raising her, I was uplifted by her affection towards animals, insatiable curiosity of the natural world, and rapid absorption of weird creature facts.
From books to hands-on activities and field trips, I wanted to keep opening the gateways to exploration. I also wanted to celebrate her curiosity and imagination. Taking a cue from my past, I thought why not tap into fashion as a mode of self-expression. So I embarked on a quest to illustrate images that captured her budding STEM interests and love of world-building. And I infused my aspirations for her to become an innovative thinker, problem solver, and contributor of tomorrow. I took those images and printed them on tees. My daughter loved them and so did her friends. That was the start of my journey for developing the Mission Matilda collection and celebrating the future of all curious-minded girls.
Who's Matilda?
The "Matilda" in Mission Matilda is a nod to the Matilda Effect, a term that refers to the pervasive erasure of women’s achievements in the sciences through systemic biases.
We’re joining the mission to foster a culture that values and champions the curiosity, intellect, capabilities, and contributions of girls and women. We don't want any more forgotten or overlooked Matildas.
We want to amplify the celebration of advancements made by women in STEM. Images of female scientists and inventors, stories of their discoveries, and mentorships with successful women in the field can help girls build motivation, resilience, confidence, and a sense of belonging in STEM.
Solutions reflect the people who build them. The more diverse the designers, the better for everyone living in a rapidly changing world with emerging challenges and shifting priorities.
INNOVATION NEEDS GIRLS.
